We have those on our small-town suburban storm drains now, too. I always figured anyone who cares about ecology already knows where storm drains go. And anyone who doesn’t won’t care about a sign.

There are a few of these outside of my apartment that showed up recently. Been meaning to rent one some day just for the novelty of it. Not surprised this has happened though, I am sure something similar may happen to ones near me.

I can’t imagine these lasting very long around college campuses with a reputation for heavy drinking.

They would definitely be fun for the first weekend . Surely t he life expectancy of a functioning rent-a-scooter is inversely proportional to the number of drunk bros in the area.

Im not that well informed about e scooters, but mobik es and such are taken to a pool of water to ruin the electronics (and the gps) , then they break the locks, remove the electronics and sell it as a regular bike.

In San Diego, at least, they use Uber-like contractors to drive around and position the scooters and somehow charge them. So the scooters are positioned on corners in neat groups of four or five. And then there are stray random scooters dropped off by users across sidewalks, or wherever. And riders everywhere with no helmets on.

It’s bad enough in downtown SF as a pedestrian with the bicycle messengers. I can’t imagine a bunch of idiots on scooters running into people.

As I rode around San Diego today, between Pacific Beach and Balboa Park, I could see that the scooter people are putting a lot of effort into positioning these things.

Their “positioning” solution? Literally throwing an armful of them out of a slow rolling van.
